District 7 is proud to lead the way in making DeKalb County one of the most desirable communities to raise a family and age in place. With one of the most active senior populations in the nation, our priorities are shaped by the real needs of older residents who continue to enrich our neighborhoods with wisdom, resilience, and service. This year alone, we have sponsored a team of senior medalists to compete in the Senior Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa, co-sponsored the annual Senior Gala, and allocated dedicated funding toward urgent housing repairs for seniors. We are also working with housing experts to explore new definitions of affordability that account for fixed incomes, advocating for solutions that distinguish the unique needs of seniors from those of able-bodied, working-age residents.
