Dr. LaDena Bolton
Super District 7 Commissioner
Dr. LaDena Bolton, affectionately known as ‘Dr. B’, is the wife of a DeKalb educator, mother of 3 school-aged boys, an award-winning chemist, and a lifetime public servant. LaDena and her siblings were raised in DeKalb County on the values of their Christian, military family. She quickly became a newlywed and young mother within months of earning her BS in chemistry from Savannah State University. Unable to secure adequate employment, she struggled to help support her family on a telemarketer’s wage, nearly losing their home. In an effort to brighten her family’s future, she enrolled at Clark Atlanta University, where she was the first in her family to earn a PhD.
Dr. Bolton has traveled to Africa, Asia and Europe, as an Analytical Forensic Chemist, to support national security, energy sustainability and health disparities research. She believes that we are responsible for the health of our communities and are empowered to protect them.
Our First 180 Days
As a newly appointed team, we were determined to hit the ground running—ensuring that our capacity to serve Super District 7 was both effective and efficient from day one. To achieve this, we embarked on a full-scale introduction tour across every county department, division, office, and court, learning firsthand how each plays a vital role in supporting residents. In parallel, we launched two 3-part Inaugural Listening Session, taking the pulse of community concerns and using that data to shape our Community Vision motto and key initiatives. These first 180 days were all about setting a strong foundation for meaningful action, collaboration, and lasting impact.

Youth and Senior Services
Economic and Small Business Development
Fostering economic growth and ensuring the sustainability of our small businesses is a cornerstone of District 7’s commitment to community development. While DeKalb County has welcomed a growing number of businesses over the years, unforeseen economic shifts—most notably the impact of the pandemic—have posed serious challenges to long-term viability.
Supporting Safe Communities
Public safety remains a top priority for Commissioner Bolton, and Super District 7 supports our county leadership to implement smart, effective solutions that protect and empower our communities. One of the most transformative tools in this effort is the development of a countywide Real-Time Crime Center.
Youth and Senior Services
District 7 is proud to lead the way in making DeKalb County one of the most desirable communities to raise a family and age in place. With one of the most active senior populations in the nation, our priorities are shaped by the real needs of older residents who continue to enrich our neighborhoods with wisdom, resilience, and service.
Top 3 Legislative Accomplishments
Better Training, Better Service
Strengthening DeKalb Together
During her first 180 days in office, Commissioner LaDena Bolton identified a critical gap in county operations—some departments didn’t have a formal process for onboarding new employees. She introduced a resolution requiring all departments to follow HR’s mandatory onboarding process to ensure every employee is properly trained to provide better, more efficient service to DeKalb residents.
Smart Leadership
Saves Taxpayers $300K
Commissioner LaDena Bolton successfully led a cost-saving initiative by urging her peers to recommend the denial of a resolution that sought to hire three new employees—despite an executive order to freeze hiring—ultimately preserving $300,000 in county funds to safeguard DeKalb’s budget during uncertain times.
(ERPS) Committee
Preparing DeKalb to Welcome the World
As Chair of the Employee Relations and Public Safety (ERPS) Committee, Commissioner LaDena Bolton is making sure DeKalb County gets the best EMS services by pushing for a competitive bidding process. She’s also leading efforts to prepare the county for safer streets, better transportation, and strong business growth ahead of the 2026 international soccer championship, when visitors from around the world will come to our community.
